My New Toy

1 min read
I recently acquired a new version of an old school camera, and it's called a SuperSampler.  It used traditional 35mm film, and it has four lenses which take four panoramic photos in succession, all on the same frame of film.  It doesn't use batteries, and instead uses a pull string to advance the film.

The fun (and initially frustrating) part is that it doesn't really have a viewfinder, so it takes the phrase "shoot from the hip" literally.  I like it, because part of the fun is not knowing exactly what you are capturing on film, and the discovery of seeing the prints.

Admittedly, my first roll of film was awful, and I'm still learning the nuances of the camera.  It will probably take me a few more rolls of film to get a better feel for the camera.  In the meantime, there are a few decent images which I felt bold enough to share.  I definitely welcome any comments and feedback!

Back in January, in celebration of the Topps Star Wars Galaxy 4 trading card product, official Star Wars artist (and all-around good guy) Randy Martinez www.randymartinez.net/ ran a contest on the Scoundrel Art Community Forums.

See the contest thread here: www.scoundrelpublishing.com/sp…

The semi-finals round of the contest had the remaining contestants create a work of art related to Star Wars creator George Lucas.

I did a series of sketch cards all parodying major works of art, and put them together in a photo which I entitled "Star Wars Art Gallery #2" (which itself was a parody in a way, since it is an homage to Randy's piece called "Star Wars Art Gallery" web.mac.com/randymartinez/Rand… ).

I'm not much of an artistic talent myself, so the quality of the work isn't the greatest, but I hope you appreciate the effort.  I had a ton of fun doing them, and I really appreciate Randy's generosity.

Well, I decided to go wild and make San Diego Comic-Con my first foray into the wonderful world of conventions.  (I know, I know... "Watch that first step... it's a DOOZY!")

I hope to see a bunch of my favorite artists there, all of whom are a billion times more talented than I am.  (Give or take a few factors of ten.)

I can't wait!!!
